This year marks the 100th anniversary of the heroic 1925 serum run to Nome. While the dogs and mushers often get the spotlight, Alaska author and historian Laurel Downing Bill will highlight another key figure: Emily Morgan, a 47-year-old Red Cross nurse who played a vital role in fighting the diphtheria outbreak.
Inspired by Morgan’s life, Downing Bill researched other incredible Alaskans and just released a new Aunt Phil’s Trunk volume, Pioneers From Alaska’s Past, filled with their stories. Copies will be available after her presentation.
